I WAS BORN AND GREW UP IN SEWARD, PA. I NOW LIVE IN COLUMBUS, OH. YOUR WEATHER GIVES ME AN IDEA OF WHAT IT IS DOING IN JOHNSTOWN. BUT I LIKED IT WHEN YOU HAD THE PHOTO FROM THE INCLINE ON YOUR PAGE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU DO NOT GIVE THE READING OF THE SNOW FALL. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

CARL

Good Evening Carl,

Thanks for the comment, the photo that I had on the site in the beginning was very good, but as times have changed I went with the flash movie for the main site. As the photo is used on some of the other sites I maintain to a degree. As for the snow fall that is one of the hardest parts of keeping track of.

To really measure the snowfall in the winter that has to be done by hand, as the weather equipment only does the rainfall only, but the software does allow me to enter snowfall.

Where the main problem comes into play is when you get snow/rain/sleet mix, or if you do get snow and the sun comes out and melts some of it away. Another one is if it is windy and snowing, there is no sure way of getting the total snowfall rate as it all has to be done by hand. I use a concrete slab to do all the snowfall amounts. Now if I get a good snow event without the wind and other elements then the total that is recorded into the system would be accurate, but as above other elements can cause it to be off or not be recorded as in the wind or sleet rain event.

The only place that it will show up on the website is in the Climatological Data link.
